An Italian football manager has been sacked after attacking a player he had just substituted.
Fiorentina coach Delio Rossi laid into midfielder Adem Ljajic during his side's 2-2 draw with Novara.
It happened after the player reacted angrily to be substituted just 32 minutes into the match.
The player appeared to sarcastically clap the decision. Rossi responded by jumping into the dugout and throwing punches.
Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle said he felt he had no choice but to sack Rossi.
"In a few seconds, months of stress came out. I am sorry because the coach has never committed acts of this kind," he said.
"For his own good to make him understand he has made a mistake I had to take this decision. No provocation justifies this reaction."
