Thousands of worshippers have been flocking to a Macedonian church where frescoes of saints are said to have brightened in colour without being restored.
Father Zoran of Saint Dimitrija church in Skopje, said the murals, long obscured by the residue of candle smoke, began to appear clearer over the weekend.
The spectacular revelations reportedly began with one image of the Virgin Mary and spread to other artworks around the chapel.
"It is truly a miracle. No-one has cleaned them, touched them, or moved them," said one church-goer. "The soot is simply falling off them."
It has prompted worshippers to flock to the church ahead of Orthodox Easter next Sunday.
A similar phenomenon was claimed in Russia in the 1930s, when the natural colours of frescoes and icons began to re-emerge in one church.
