A Florida woman adopted a stray Dobermen dog - only to find she was heavily pregnant with 12 puppies.
Kind-hearted Peggy Conover, from Tavares, Florida, decided to help after the pregnant dog was bought to a shelter.
She said: "The local animal control picked her up, only to find the dog, which we named Jenny, was very pregnant.
"Poor Jenny looked as if she would burst with puppies at any moment. She was young, perhaps two years old, and terribly frightened.
"My husband immediately built her a whelping box and the puppies were born a week later on my husband's birthday.
"Needless to say, we were all shocked when she delivered twelve puppies which we affectionately called the Dirty Dozen."
Mrs Conover's daughter Alana named the puppies Gator, Sport, Jumper, Whisky, Tebow, Albert, Thor, Lily, Sophie, Elly, and Cookie.
She had to use a large plastic crate to take them all to the vets for check-ups, and took weekly photographs of them in the crates to record their progress.
All 12 puppies have now been adopted - and all are thriving in their new homes, added Mrs Conover.
"Was it a lot of work? Yes. Would I do it again? Absolutely," she added.
