A 35-year-old mother has been hit with felony charges for allegedly taking nude pictures of her daughter, 13.
According to prosecutors, the woman, who is not named to protect the identity of her daughter, knew the teen intended to text the images to her 30-year-old boyfriend.
She was charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Desert News reports that the Duchesne County, teen told law enforcement officials that her boyfriend – who lives in Oregon – had given her the cell phone.
She told police that he requested nude pictures of her, adding that her mother helped her take three pictures of herself after she was having trouble doing it herself.
The charges say the three pictures were then sent to the Oregon man.
While speaking with detectives, the girl’s mother corroborated her daughter’s statement.
She confirmed that she knew the intended destination of the photographs as well, the documents state.
Utah detectives are now working with investigators in Oregon against the 30-year-old man.
This isn’t the only time a mother has ‘helped’ her teenage daughter in matters of the heart.
In February, another Utah mother pled guilty to felony charges after she conspired to sell her 13-year-old daughter’s virginity for $10,000.
While in court, the mother’s lawyer blamed her behaviour in part on her addiction to prescription pills, saying she took them ‘like candy,’ as well as her rocky childhood.
‘It was not a pretty picture,’ the lawyer said.
According to a Salt Lake County prosecutor, the girl had originally consented to the agreement, but later decided she didn’t want to follow through.
The mother was also accused of sending pictures of her daughter to a man in exchange for cash.
