ONE of Australia's most notorious sex offenders has been released back into the community, but will not be fitted with an electronic bracelet.

Serial rapist Lyell Grant Meizer has been granted parole after serving 13 years of a 20-year sentence.

The Queensland Government did not make an application to the courts for permission to track Meizer with GPS technology available under the Dangerous Prisoner (Sex Offender) Act.
