A mother is behind bars after police said she raised money by tricking many into thinking her daughter was dying from cancer.
Carrie Campbell, 35, of St. Joseph, MO, is charged with forgery.
Police said she faked medical documents to show that her 17-year-old daughter has cancer when, in fact, her daughter did not have cancer.
Fundraisers were planned around town and a bank account was set up to raise money for the family. The benefit golf tournament, previously scheduled in St. Joseph to help raise money for medical expenses, has since been canceled.
Children's Mercy Hospital initially reported the situation to police
