THE body of a 36-year-old US woman found in a public swimming pool in Massachusetts may have been submerged in the water for more than 48 hours.
A group of teenagers who allegedly broke into the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Pool in Fall River, Massachusetts, by scaling a fence for a late-night swim discovered the body of Marie Joseph about 10pm local time on Tuesday, The Herald News reported.
Ms Joseph had not been formally reported missing but had not been seen since Sunday when she went to the pool with a nine-year-old boy - a neighbour - and a group of other residents.
The boy told police that Ms Joseph was acting as his chaperone during the outing to the pool and the pair had collided in the water after going down a slide.
He said he did not see Ms Joseph again after the collision. The water in that area of the pool is 3.6m deep.
