A horse has been rescued on the Mornington Peninsula after falling into its owner's swimming pool.

Emergency crews were called to the house at Mount Eliza about 1pm AEST.

They drained the pool and used a crane to winch the horse out.

The Country Fire Authority's Nev Jones says apart from being cold, the horse suffered some minor cuts.
