CHILDREN as young as 12 have gone on a stealing rampage, swiping four cars and leading police on a 1000km chase to Mount Isa.

The five children started their trail of destruction in Idalia early on Sunday morning when three 14-year-olds, a 13-year-old and 12-year-old stole a Commodore, The Townsville Buleltin reports.

Two of the juveniles were already on bail for a number of other offences. Police managed to catch one of the children at Idalia several hours later but the others sped off.
